Donald to play in 2013 Maybank Malaysian Open

Luke Donald, the former world No. 1 golfer, has committed to take part in the Maybank Malaysian Open 2013, which is all set to begin from 21st March, 2013. The revelation about Luke’s participation in the championship was made by Maybank, the title sponsor of the tournament.

The event will take place at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club in Kuala Lumpur. The total prize fund of the event will be US$ 2.75 million. Previous year, the total prize money for the event was US$ 2.5 million.

The Maybank Malaysian Open is generally called as Malyasia’s premier golf tournament as well as the main National Open in that region. The event is known for drawing a top golfer’s line up every year.

This will be the very first time when Luke Donald will take part in the event. Speaking to the reporters, he said about his plans to get back the world No. 1 position during this ongoing season. At present, Irish golfer Rory McIlroy is at the No. 1 position in the World Golf Rankings.

Luke, who became victorious both in the money lists on the European Tour and the PGA Tour in 2011 season, is the 1st top addition in this year’s event. Maybank Chairman said that the confirmation of Donald is really another boost for Maybank Malaysian Open. Since Maybank took over the title sponsorship of this event in 2006, they have endeavoured to bring world class golfing personalities to Malaysia.
