actually I thought that you need more sand to hit it shorter but a much easier way to do it is to just open the face more and make a angular swing that takes a shallow divot out of the sand. RIght now it sounds like that doesn’t work, but i didn’t beleive it till i tried it and now i always use it
True that getting closer to the ball will impart more spin, but then you hit the ball farther too. For a short sand shot with lots of spin you need more sand in between AND lots of club head speed. So I think you are both kind of right depending on what the actual shot is.
i still disagree but okay.
Lol dude I’m not saying you need direct contact with the ball but the less sand you take the more spin you will impart on the ball, that is a fact period.
lol buddy you don’t make direct contact with the ball at all. the most basic part of bunker play is hitting 2-3 inches behind the ball. come on, i’m sure you know that. besides you can hit a ball thick so that your club doesn’t even get out of the sand and spin the ball with proper technique. grooves dont have much impact on bunker spin, its all bounce. what you are saying is more for out of the fairway
Did you even read my comment? You need almost direct contact with the ball to impart a spin on the ball from the bunker, when you use the bounce you just slide through the sand and you hear will hear that lovely sound Luke made in this particular video.
when the bounce is used properly it becomes almost impossible to chunk one. purposely attempting to take less sand would indicate poor technique being compensated for. listen to the sound every good bunker player makes, including luke in this video. what do you think that sound is?
you kidding me? You can’t hit a spinner from a bunker if you chunck it you need a lot of speed and you need to take less sand which you do by using the bounce of the club.
bunker spin comes from the bounce of the club hitting up through the ball in the sand not how much sand is taken
great amount of speed and catch less sand, you need more direct contact with the ball, so take less sand which will give you more spin.
for a start hes probably using pro v 1s, out of good sand on to good green for spin, a good club an of course the perfect strike.
Luke Donald is pure class.
