World number one Luke Donald might not have come closer to the lead than six shots at the recently concluded The Open Championship since the opening round at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, but in another demonstration of the level of his consistent game, he managed to finish level at T-5 with a player who teed off with the final group on the last day of the event.
Donald began the last round of the tournament a whopping 10 shots behind the leader Adam Scott, but he managed to finish with a score of one under 69. On the other hand, Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell, who played in the final round of the tournament, managed a score of 2 under 278 for the entire tournament and finished at T-5 with Donald. According to Donald, that final round was one where he managed to achieve plenty of good things.
Speaking about the finish in the tournament, Luke Donald stated that he was not able to put away the putts, but still, he will be taking a lot of positives away from Turnberry. He admitted that he will be leaving the course knowing the he is good enough to win a Major championship. And he mentioned that this achievement was a huge step in the forward direction for him, especially after the events of the US Open.
In spite of missing the cut at the recently concluded US Open, Donald started off as one of the favorites for The Open Championship with his game seeming to be a good fit for the course at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, but what let the world number one down was his putter.
And speaking of his ranking, Luke Donald stated that the world ranking is all about being consistent and he has shown the best consistency over the last year.
