topped it right off the hosel.
is it me or is Luke Donald sway on his back swing? I noticed this because it’s what I’m currently working on. His weight on the right has gone past the inside of his foot. I downloaded this vid in V1 and unfortunately, he is not pivoting on top of the hip socket like I was taught to do. Is this an old school method of doing it or is it a flaw?
very nice action, i have a couple of slow motion videos check them out 🙂
There is a lot of discussing of scooping on this post. Have a look at the hip motion and his pivot work in relation to the hand action. That is what defines the ‘scoop’. Luke’s hand action post impact without his great pivot action would indeed be a scoop but not in his case. Great pivot work into and beyond impact.
Furthermore, his left wrist never breaks down. He has a perfect release with the club with his left wrist facing the ground and his right wrist maintaining the flying wedge, or angle. One of the best swings on tour right here. There is a reason he is number 1….
@jahcut Uh yes, whether or not he scoops the ball matters. The guys at these levels do not scoop the ball. Whether their swing looks like Furyk’s or Tommy Gainey’s, impact position is similar and it’s hands leading the club. If you can’t do that don’t even count on having a makeable par putt.
@theciskokidd – EXACTLY! 0:12 is exactly the moment of impact, and his hands are AHEAD of the ball, brushes the turf right after the ball……. little ball, then big ball. NO FLIP.

beautiful impact zone/strike. perfect release into the ball.
Ive stood mere feet from him in person on the golf course.. Scooped shots do not sound like his shots sound… period.
i don’t know what kind of golf you guys play, but whether or not he scoops the ball, is irrelevent, there is no perfect swing (because everyone is built differently), in the end HE SINKS PUTTS and as an AMAZING short game and that’s all that matters! the goal is to putt the ball in the hole, and there are many ways to do it, none of them being perfect or better than another! shit i’d swing the club like Furyk if i could play like him!!!!!! watch, learn, and respect!
@gsclubv12 very fucking true.
i think you guys have to much time on your hands and are not getting enough pusssay
@jeanmunn – It’s definitely not flippy. However, with the amount of forearm rotation he has through the hitting area his club is square to the path for a shorter period of time than someone with a more ‘body release’ , for example Hunter Mahan.
Different styles and preferences as always but personally I prefer the body to be more dominant rather than this Ernie Els/Luke Donald/Vijay Singh style release.
I just dont agree that the number one player should have a major, a major is just a course set up in a difficult way, and somehow the best players should win. That’s just wrong + donald has been Top 20
in almost every major
@dash1988 and in MY opinion, your opinion is GARBAGE! Obviously you have never achieved anything in life that’s about the level of a pro. So you just open your mouth and spit out rubbish. My 2nd opinion is that your English SUCKS!
@dash1988 A major would definately cap off his achievements, but there’s no doubt he doesn’t deserve to be number one. He leads both the US money list and the European order of merit.
@56csp Scooped? lmao. PGA tour players don’t scoop, let alone the number one player. It’s a very nice release with hands in front of clubhead at impact if you pause it. There’s also a full extension post impact that is not flippy one bit. But thanks for giving a tour player ‘advice’ to hit down on the ball..lol
Pause it at :12 and tell me thats a FLIP…Its just a PERFECTLY timed release is all and its absolutely gorgeous. Dont hate suckas!
i dont no how hes number one coz hes rubbish in my oppinion only major winners should be allowed to be world number one
Nuke Donald
@1PedroAmor no. they just go play golf and just cause they dont win a major doesnt mean they cant be num 1. he plays solid day in and day out very consistent. and i dont think u understand the mental stand these players have to be in.
He scooped that iron. He might find more distance if he were to hit a bit more down on the ball and, consequently, compress it.
@1PedroAmor You obviously no nothing about the game of golf and how it differs to tennis.
